Coming up in the Fifth Grade (Regina O'Leary)
This week (Aslam) Movie on Friday We are having a Movie Today (Friday) To celebrate our reading over the Winter break. The movie we are watching is a mystery. Rotations We have two more rotations left for our subjects that we have until we go to our next rotation which is our homeroom teacher. Farm to school We’ve had two farm to schools so far. Our first one we were making kale pesto, and the second one we’ve made sweet potato, and black bean salad. Started skiing We have started skiing because it is January and we will keep skiing for PE until February Making masks In Art we have been making masks out of plaster, and then we will be decorating them. HAPPY 2017!!! Updates: Play House (Faryal): --pictures below Before Winter Break the fifth graders made playhouses. The playhouses were made out of candy. We had $50.00 to buy whatever we need for our playhouses. There were many types of candy that were available like graham crackers, candy canes, smarties and more. But, we only had 2 hours to build our playhouses. One hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon. The reason we made the playhouses was because one of Mrs.Cooper’s friends from California was trying to design a playground but did not know what to include in the playground so we made them. The winners of the playhouses were Regina, Grant, Maggie Clark, Maggie Tutor, and Jay. All of them will have a part of their design in the playground. Social Studies/Science Rotations (Catie): In constitution with Ms. Appleby, we each got our own delegate. We have to research our delegate and create a poster or an interview. My favorite part about Constitution is learning about George Washington (my delegate) and creating a poster. Before break, my class went to earth systems with Mrs. Cooper. There we learned about the geosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere. My favorite part about earth systems was doing the final test on how to stop erosion. Our very first social studies rotation was learning about the solar system with Ms. Vincent. My favorite part about stars was creating a diagram to show why we have seasons. Random Acts of Kindness (Tenzin): Before break all of the fifth graders and teachers had done random acts of kindness because we realized it was it important to do the right thing. In the morning, we would write down what we did for random acts of kindness on dots, and then stick them with tape on the wall. For example, I shoveled my driveway in the morning so my mom won’t be stressed out to be late for work. Upcoming:
Since there was no Community Service this week or next week, the fifth grade teachers thought it was important to post to the blog before break. We have had a very busy, but very fun week! The time before December break is flying by... we only have 4 days of school next week. For all the parents, famlies, and friends who were able to attend either or both concerts (at UMall and RMCS assmebly), thank you for coming! The fifth grade chorus was AMAZING, and we are so proud of each and every student. They blew so many people away! A big thank you goes out to Ms. Halloway for her incredible dedication to our students. We were even lucky enough to be featured in a video on the WCAX Facebook page! This week, the students have continued working on decimals in math, and are writing their feature article in Writer's Workshop. In reading, students are working on Natalie Kinsey books-- trying to complete them in the next few weeks. Next week, students will be building their play houses. Everyone has designed their play house and parents have come in and filled orders for the building that will happen on Monday. Thanks SO much to the parents who came and helped filling orders! Enjoy the pictures and videos! -Lizzy, Danielle, Kristen, and Annick Upcoming Events: Hammad Ali Our first concert, we will be traveling to Shelburne to sing on Dec. 6. Concert attire is requested. After recess and lunch, we will have our reading celebration by watching a movie. Music News: Cammeron Gammon In music we are having a concert we have been practicing really hard and some of us got special parts. James got a tambourine part for "Here we Come a Singing" and he is doing a great job. Also our chorus is outstanding. Mrs. Holloway said that her last chorus was the best but she also said that we might top them. Other Updates: Another thing, Mrs. Cooper’s class went to the mall to buy stuff for the less fortunate. The fifth grade adopted a few families to buy gifts for. The other three classes will be wrapping the gifts. Also, for Constitution Jonathan won for PRESIDENT from Mrs. Vincent's class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Specials: William Rickards Today I am going to teach you about what we are learning in specials. In music class we are learning songs for our holiday program my favorite song that we are learning is "Jingle Bell Rock". In P.E we are done the game touchdown and we are going to do tennis. In art we are doing a very fun abstract art what that is,is we draw lines and with stencles and then we paint then in with temper paint it lookes leally cool.Last but not least we have library, in library we are learning about fair use and copy write. We are also reading books in library. Reading: Leo Rosowsky In Reader’s Workshop and Read Aloud, we are reading books by the author Natalie Kinsey-Warnock. She will be visiting our school Friday, December 9th. We are very gracious to have her coming in. She mainly writes about family stories. Some of her many good books are Gifts From the Sea, Language of Loons, Lumber Camp Library, A Doctor Like Papa, and many more. In read aloud we are reading one of her books called True Colors. We read some of the books by ourselves, but some we read in book clubs. Ms. Couillard and Mrs. Cooper’s class are continuing book clubs for one more unit, and everyone is reading other ones on our own. My personal favorite is Language of the Loons, but all of the books are great. Natalie Kinsey-Warnock is overall a great author. Upcoming Events: (Jay Eagle) |
